Based at Birmingham City University’s School of Jewellery, the BA (Hons) Horology degree is one of the very few university-level programmes in the world dedicated specifically to watches, clocks and the science of timekeeping. The three-year course combines traditional bench skills with modern design and manufacturing technologies, covering watch and clock servicing, restoration, component manufacture, technical drawing, CAD/CAM and rapid prototyping. Students work on both mechanical and electronic timepieces while developing the analytical skills required to diagnose faults, restore historic mechanisms and create original horological projects. The programme benefits from strong links with the watch industry, including partnerships, live projects, mentoring and professional placements with leading companies.
