The Time Production is an independent editorial platform dedicated to independent watchmaking, its creators, craftsmanship, culture and wider ecosystem.
This Editorial Policy explains the principles that guide the selection, research, production and publication of content on The Time Production. Its purpose is to provide readers, watchmakers, brands, contributors and professional partners with a clear understanding of how editorial decisions are made and how the publication seeks to preserve its independence.
The Time Production approaches watchmaking through curation rather than exhaustive coverage. We do not attempt to report on every launch, brand or development within the watch industry. Instead, we focus on subjects that we believe offer genuine editorial interest and value to collectors and readers interested in independent horology.
Editorial decisions remain under the responsibility of The Time Production and are made independently of commercial considerations, hospitality, access, personal relationships or financial support.
1. Our Editorial Mission
The Time Production was created to document, explore and support the culture of independent watchmaking through original editorial work.
Our coverage focuses primarily on independent watchmakers, founders, brands, manufactures, artisans, institutions and other individuals or organisations whose work contributes meaningfully to contemporary horology.
Rather than simply reporting on new products, our objective is to provide context, perspective and a deeper understanding of the people, ideas, craftsmanship and technical developments behind the watches we cover.
The publication is intended principally for collectors, enthusiasts and professionals who share an interest in distinctive, independently created and thoughtfully executed watchmaking.
The Time Production does not seek to cover every company operating within the watch industry. Brands, products or projects that fall outside our editorial scope may therefore not be covered, irrespective of any potential commercial opportunity.
2. Editorial Selection and Independence
All subjects covered by The Time Production are selected according to editorial relevance.
In many cases, The Time Production initiates contact with a watchmaker, founder, brand or institution because we believe that their work deserves closer attention. Coverage may develop following conversations, meetings, presentations, manufacture visits or opportunities to examine a watch in person.
The existence of a commercial opportunity does not determine whether a subject will be covered.
The Time Production does not sell positive reviews, editorial opinions or guaranteed favourable coverage. No payment, contribution, advertising proposal, hospitality arrangement or other benefit entitles any person or organisation to control the conclusions, tone or substance of our editorial work.
Editorial relationships may develop over long periods of time, particularly within the independent watchmaking community. Familiarity or an established professional relationship does not remove our responsibility to maintain independent editorial judgment.
3. Editorial Research and First-Hand Experience
Whenever reasonably possible, The Time Production seeks to develop its articles through direct interaction with the people, watches and organisations being covered.
This may include meetings with founders or watchmakers, interviews, presentations, manufacture visits, participation in industry events or the temporary examination of watches.
Where a physical watch is made available for editorial purposes, it will normally be provided on a temporary loan basis and returned to its owner or the relevant brand after the period of examination.
Such watches may include production models, prototypes, pre-production pieces, unique creations or privately owned watches. The provision of a watch for review does not constitute a gift and does not guarantee publication or favourable coverage.
Where first-hand access is not reasonably possible, The Time Production may rely on official documentation, direct correspondence, technical information, interviews, reputable third-party sources and other materials considered appropriate to the subject.
4. Original Editorial Content
The Time Production produces independently structured and written editorial content.
Official press releases, technical documents, press kits, product specifications and information supplied by brands may be used as factual sources, but they do not determine the editorial structure, analysis or conclusions of an article.
Content published by The Time Production is not intended to reproduce manufacturer communications. Wherever appropriate, articles incorporate independent observations, historical context, technical analysis, commentary and additional research.
The Time Production may contact a brand, watchmaker or other relevant party before publication in order to verify technical specifications, names, dates, quotations or other factual information.
Where pre-publication factual verification takes place, it does not provide the subject of an article with editorial approval over the publication. Opinions, analysis, conclusions and final editorial decisions remain with The Time Production.
5. Reviews, Opinions and Editorial Judgment
Reviews and commentary published by The Time Production reflect the editorial judgment of their author.
Watchmaking inevitably involves matters of taste, design, emotion, craftsmanship and personal interpretation. Accordingly, certain assessments published on the Site are subjective by nature.
We seek to distinguish factual statements from editorial opinion and to explain the reasoning behind our assessments wherever appropriate.
The Time Production does not undertake to publish exclusively positive coverage. Appreciation for independent watchmaking does not require the absence of criticism, and constructive criticism may form part of our editorial work.
At the same time, our objective is not to generate controversy for its own sake. Criticism should remain proportionate, reasoned and relevant to the subject being discussed.
6. Financial Independence and Voluntary Support
The Time Production is independently operated and does not sell editorial coverage.
Articles are undertaken because a subject is considered relevant to the publication and its readership, not because a brand has purchased an article or guaranteed payment in exchange for coverage.
The Time Production may inform brands, watchmakers or other parties featured in its editorial work that the publication is independently financed and that voluntary financial support may contribute to the continued development of the platform.
Any such contribution is entirely discretionary. It is not a condition of publication, does not purchase an article and does not entitle the contributor to influence editorial opinions, conclusions, future coverage or the treatment of other subjects.
A decision not to provide financial support does not alter the editorial status of previously published work.
Where The Time Production enters into a separate commercial, advertising or partnership arrangement in the future, such activity should be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial content.
7. Invitations, Travel and Hospitality
Editorial work may occasionally involve invitations from brands, watchmakers, institutions or industry organisations to attend presentations, exhibitions, manufacture visits, professional events or other experiences relevant to our coverage.
Such invitations may involve travel, accommodation, meals, access or hospitality provided by the inviting party.
The acceptance of hospitality does not guarantee coverage and does not provide the inviting party with control over the resulting editorial content.
The Time Production seeks to accept such opportunities only where they provide legitimate editorial value, including improved access to watches, manufacturing processes, individuals, archives or other information relevant to our work.
Where appropriate, material relationships or circumstances that may reasonably be relevant to a reader’s understanding of an article may be disclosed.
8. Gifts and Editorial Products
The Time Production does not consider the provision of valuable watches or other luxury products to be an appropriate substitute for independent editorial judgment.
Watches supplied for examination are normally treated as temporary editorial loans and are expected to be returned.
Low-value promotional items, press materials or customary hospitality may occasionally be received in the normal course of professional activity. Their acceptance does not create an obligation to provide coverage or favourable treatment.
Where an item of material value is offered in circumstances that could reasonably compromise, or appear to compromise, editorial independence, The Time Production may decline or return it.
9. Accuracy, Verification and Corrections
The Time Production seeks to publish information that is accurate, clearly presented and supported by appropriate sources.
Technical specifications, historical information, quotations and other factual statements may be verified using information supplied directly by watchmakers or brands, official documentation, interviews, reputable publications or other relevant sources.
Despite reasonable efforts, errors may occasionally occur. The Time Production may correct, clarify, update or expand previously published material when new information becomes available or where an error is identified.
Material corrections should be made in a manner appropriate to the significance of the error.
Updates made solely to improve formatting, grammar, readability or technical presentation may not necessarily be individually disclosed.
10. Artificial Intelligence and Editorial Tools
The Time Production may use artificial intelligence and other digital tools to assist certain aspects of its editorial and production workflow.
Such tools may be used for purposes including translation, language adaptation, proofreading, grammatical review, formatting, transcription, research organisation or other supporting tasks.
Artificial intelligence does not replace the editorial judgment of The Time Production.
Editorial opinions, assessments, conclusions and decisions concerning what should or should not be published remain under human editorial responsibility. Information produced or assisted by automated tools should be reviewed and, where relevant, verified before publication.
As The Time Production develops multilingual versions of its content, automated translation or language-assistance technologies may form part of the translation workflow. Reasonable efforts will be made to preserve the meaning, tone and factual accuracy of the original editorial material.
Final responsibility for published content remains with The Time Production.
11. Copyright, Images and Third-Party Materials
The Time Production respects copyright and other intellectual property rights.
Original photographs, illustrations, graphics and other materials created by The Time Production remain subject to the intellectual property rights described in the Site’s applicable legal policies.
The Site may also publish photographs, press images, product imagery, logos or other materials supplied by watchmakers, brands, photographers, agencies or other third parties.
Where reasonably possible, appropriate credits are provided in accordance with the information supplied or the conditions under which the material has been made available.
The presence of third-party material on the Site does not imply that The Time Production owns the underlying intellectual property rights.
Anyone who believes that material published on The Time Production infringes their rights is encouraged to contact us so that the matter can be reviewed.
12. Editorial Relationships and Conflicts of Interest
The independent watchmaking community is relatively small, and long-term professional relationships naturally develop between journalists, collectors, watchmakers, founders, brands and other industry participants.
The existence of such a relationship does not automatically constitute an editorial conflict of interest.
However, where a financial, personal or professional relationship could reasonably be considered material to a reader’s interpretation of particular coverage, The Time Production may disclose that relationship where appropriate.
Editorial decisions should not be influenced by personal favour, pressure, retaliation or the expectation of future commercial opportunities.
13. Reader Feedback and Constructive Dialogue
The Time Production welcomes thoughtful discussion, corrections, additional information and constructive disagreement from readers, collectors, watchmakers and industry professionals.
Where commenting or other community functionality is available, contributions should remain respectful, relevant and lawful.
The Time Production may moderate or remove material that is abusive, defamatory, discriminatory, misleading, unlawful, threatening, promotional, spam-related or otherwise inconsistent with the standards of the publication.
Editorial disagreement alone is not a reason for removal.
14. Changes to This Editorial Policy
The Time Production may update this Editorial Policy as the publication, its editorial practices and its business model evolve.
Where material changes are made, the revised version will be published on this page and the “Last updated” date displayed above will be amended accordingly.
The fundamental principle underlying this Policy remains the preservation of independent editorial judgment and the separation of editorial decisions from undue commercial influence.
