Located in Kongsberg, Norway, Kongsberg Videregående Skole is the country’s only school offering the vocational watchmaking programme (VG2 Urmaker), making it the national reference for professional watchmaker education. The programme follows Norway’s vocational pathway, combining two years of school-based education with a two-year apprenticeship before students earn their Journeyman Certificate (Svennebrev) as qualified watchmakers. Throughout their training, students learn to service, repair and restore mechanical and quartz watches and clocks while developing essential skills in diagnostics, lubrication, component replacement, restoration and customer service. Practical placements with authorised workshops and watch retailers are integrated into the curriculum, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for professional careers.
