IHU Urmakarskolan

Motala, Sweden

About the School

Based in Motala, IHU Urmakarskolan is Sweden’s specialist school for professional watchmaking education and one of the few Nordic institutions offering a complete pathway into the trade. Its full-time higher vocational programme combines extensive practical workshop training with theoretical instruction and follows internationally recognised WOSTEP standards. Students learn to manufacture, service, repair and restore a wide range of timepieces, from mechanical wristwatches to larger clocks, while developing essential skills in micromechanics, adjustment, diagnostics and precision craftsmanship. The programme also includes professional placements, giving students direct experience of working within the watch industry before graduation. Graduates receive a Swedish higher vocational qualification and can progress into professional watchmaking, restoration, after-sales service or related micromechanical fields. Through its combination of traditional horological skills, internationally recognised standards and strong professional orientation, IHU Urmakarskolan remains the leading institution for watchmaking education in Sweden.
