Kortela Valta is an independent Finnish watchmaking workshop founded by Roope Kortela and René Valta shortly after graduating from the Finnish School of Watchmaking in 2023. United by a shared passion for traditional craftsmanship and precision machining, they chose to establish their own workshop in Porvoo rather than follow the more conventional path of gaining experience abroad. Their approach focuses on transparency, extensive in house manufacturing and traditional hand finishing, with a distinctly Nordic sense of restraint. Their first watch, the EKA, named after the Finnish word for “first”, combines a restored vintage movement from the 1950s with numerous components designed and manufactured in their own workshop or produced locally in Finland.
