Hello, today I would like to introduce you to a relatively discreet brand in the watchmaking landscape that has its own unique universe. It is the brand Cyrus. Before presenting one of their creations, I would like to tell you a bit more about this brand.

Cyrus is an independent brand created in 2010 and founded by a family of Swiss entrepreneurs with deep expertise in luxury and a passion for haute horlogerie. Based in Le Locle and Geneva, Switzerland, it is overseen by the renowned watchmaker Jean-François Mojon. This brand offers increasingly innovative pieces and stands out with radical designs, technical skills, all while respecting the centuries-old traditions of the industry.

Cyrus takes its name from Cyrus the Great, the famous Persian king who lived in the 6th century BC. In the model I am going to present to you today, we find the smallest case designed by Cyrus, 42mm, which stands out here with an unprecedented display of the GMT function allowing a second time zone to be shown. Now, let’s move on to the watch.

What are the characteristics of the Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde?

Case

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde features a 10 ATM water-resistant polished Grade 5 titanium cushion-shaped case with very angular and rounded edges and a fixed bezel. Measuring 42mm in diameter and 13.9mm in thickness, this watch perfectly combines contemporary design and exceptional functionality, but as you might have guessed, it is too imposing for my wrist. Cyrus watches are characterized by having two crowns that illustrate the marriage of function and design. The crown at 3 o’clock winds the movement and sets the time. The crown at 9 o’clock is a cleverly concealed push-button that allows the user to independently set the local hour hand in one-hour increments without affecting the GMT hand.

Dial

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde features a balanced, complex, and skeletonized dial that, in my opinion, is quite legible. With great depth, it displays local time with central hour and minute hands, a small second hand, and a second time zone on a 24-hour scale with a retrograde hand. For reading the time, it includes white Arabic numerals around the entire perimeter fixed on a sapphire crystal ring with Super-LumiNova, appearing to float above the dial. A black minute ring with Super-LumiNova markings every five minutes is angled on the outermost perimeter. An inner blue lacquered ring with luminescent numbers and 24-hour markers surrounds the retrograde GMT hand, which has a luminescent triangular tip.

Movement

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde houses the in-house automatic caliber CYR708. Developed by Jean-François Mojon, this movement consists of 278 parts with 41 jewels and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) with a standard power reserve of 55 hours. The rotor is skeletonized, and the decorations are subtle with an anthracite gray finish across the entire surface, featuring a contrasting sunburst pattern and bead blasting. What I particularly liked is that the GMT hand returns to its starting point once a day, giving the impression of a shooting star.

Strap

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde is delivered with a natural black rubber strap with a titanium deployant clasp. Though I usually do not favor this type of strap, this one is thin and exceptionally flexible, making it very comfortable to wear.

How much does the Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde?

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde is a limited edition of 50 pieces and is offered at a price of CHF 18,100 (excluding VAT).

Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde: A watch for unconventional globetrotters

The Cyrus Klepcys GMT Retrograde is a very interesting watch due to its design and complications. Intended for globetrotters, the Klepcys GMT Retrograde incorporates all the brand’s characteristics with cutting-edge technology and a futuristic, unconventional style. This timepiece is original but did not particularly resonate with me due to its sporty nature and prominent size, which is not very discreet. I would like to warmly thank Ikram who opened the doors of Watch Avenue at DIFC in Dubai to present me with superb timepieces like this beautiful Cyrus.
