Hello, today I’d like to introduce you to a brand that breaks the codes of traditional watchmaking. Meet Ressence. Before we explore this colorful watch, allow me to give you a brief overview of the brand.
Founded in Belgium in 2010 by industrial designer Benoît Mintiens, Ressence’s name is a contraction of “Renaissance of the Essential.” The brand aims to craft a new type of watch that expresses time in the purest form possible, reflecting the innovations and style of the 21st century.
This focus on essence and purity not only defines their brand image but is central to their products. Rather than using hands, Ressence watches feature dials that rotate relative to each other, acting like moons orbiting a planet, continually changing—just like the essence of time itself.
Ressence offers a distinctive and somewhat counterintuitive approach to watchmaking. While traditional watchmakers focus on the movement as the core of their creations, Ressence starts with the individual who will wear the watch. Let’s discover the watch.
What are the features of the Ressence Type 1° M?
Case
The Ressence Type 1° M features a pebble-shaped case crafted from Grade 5 titanium, measuring 42.7 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick. This model blends the iconic “Type 1” design with elements of the “Type 3”, characterized by its elegant minimalism and the brand’s unconventional approach to watchmaking. One standout feature is the absence of a crown, enhancing its ergonomics and comfort. Interestingly, the crown is relocated to the back of the case. It offers water resistance up to 1 ATM.
Dial
The Ressence Type 1° M boasts a vibrant dial with functional colors, combining soft tones to craft a visually appealing and practical timepiece. The main dial disk is pristine white, with the peripheral minute track in blue, hours in green, seconds in yellow, and weekdays in red. These colors not only contribute to the aesthetic but also make this model the easiest-to-read Ressence ever produced, as the color coding helps memorize the function of each element. Additionally, the engraved indications (numerals, indexes, and hands) are filled with Super-LumiNova, ensuring clear visibility in low light conditions.
Movement
The Ressence Type 1° M is equipped with the innovative Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS) 1.3 movement, which animates the entire dial. This unique design displays time in a two-dimensional format where hours, minutes, seconds, and days orbit each other. The self-winding mechanism is driven by the minute axis of a base caliber 2892, consisting of 212 components and 40 jewels. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and boasts a power reserve of 36 hours.
Strap
True to the watch’s design ethos, the Ressence Type 1° M features an ivory-colored rubber strap fitted with a pin buckle, enhancing both its style and comfort.
